When you get a dental extraction, this means that you have a tooth completely removed from your mouth. Removal includes taking out the pulp and root of your tooth. Your dentist will check your tooth first by taking an x-ray, to make sure that your tooth should be pulled.
The tooth is removed using specialized dental tools, but only after the area of your jaw has been numbed with a localized anesthetic. If the tooth is large or slightly impacted below the gum line, your dentist may need to make a tiny incision in the gum or break up the tooth into easier to remove pieces.
WHEN DO I NEED DENTAL EXTRACTION?
Your dentist will try to save your tooth, by carefully assessing the tooth to see if it can be filled or a root canal can be performed. If the tooth is beyond saving, your dentist will have to perform an extraction.
When a tooth is in really bad shape, has numerous cracks in it, or is decayed down to the gum line, your tooth will probably need to be extracted. In addition, if the pulp within the tooth is infected, many dentists will extract the tooth because it can’t be saved. If the infection is spreading, your dentist will likely extract the tooth to protect nearby teeth.
